Civic, Livery and Formal Functions
“High Sheriff, My Lord Bishop, Freemen of the Borough, Your Worships,
Honourable Members, Deputy Lieutenants, Councillors, Ladies & Gentlemen”
The opportunity for the leaders of the community to demonstrate their pride
in the town and the people they represent. A civic function commences with the
formal greeting and announcement of the guests as they arrive and are introduced
to the Mayoral party, then there is the entrance of the splendidly robed Mayor
in a dignified procession led by the Toastmaster in his scarlet tail coat.
The Toastmaster introduces the speakers and exchanges of formalities. It is the
role of the Toastmaster to give these civic events pomp and dignity and to
ensure that the whole event receives the attention and distinction which the
Borough and its Chief Citizen deserve.
David
has worked on civic and official functions all over London and the Home Counties
and currently has the honour to have been elected President of his own
professional Society. He has been regularly engaged as a Toastmaster for the Mayoral
functions in Bracknell and surrounding Boroughs and has also worked on major
civic and livery occasions at venues such as the Guildhall and at the Mansion
House in the City.
Ladies Festivals and Other Occasions
Congratulations, after more years than you care to count you are the Master
of your Lodge. The year is going smoothly, wonderful ceremonies, and you have
settled on the venue for your Ladies Night. Ladies Night!! What wine takings
should we have, how many speeches, who can sing the Song and my wife is now
threatening dire things having learnt that she is expected to reply to a Toast!
At
this point involve your Toastmaster with your Festival Committee and benefit
from the experience of someone who has been "through the Chair" three times
himself, can sing the Song (and can suggest light hearted ways of conducting
this important section of your evening), can help with the conduct of the
Raffle, and can even sooth your Lady's nerves and help her to prepare her speech
should she need assistance.
David has officiated at many Masonic Ladies Festivals and other similar
events both on single days and where the Festival is spread over a weekend,
often at a seaside resort in the UK or Europe.
